How subscription plans work

Tags:subscriptionsplanstemplateabonnementenabonnementplan

A subscription plan is a reusable template that pre-fills the settings of a new subscription. Plans are useful when you offer recurring products or services with fixed pricing — for example a monthly membership, a yearly maintenance contract, or a fixed-amount subscription box.

What a plan defines

A plan locks in the following settings:

  • Recurrence and interval (for example: every month, every 3 months, every 2 weeks)
  • A fixed recurring amount
  • The communication shown on the customer's bank statement
  • The total number of executions (or 0 for unlimited)

When you create a subscription from a plan, you only choose the start date. The other settings are taken from the plan and cannot be changed at creation time.

How to get a plan set up

Plans are configured by Twikey support. To request a new plan, contact our support team with:

  • The intended use (which product or service the plan is for)
  • The recurrence and amount
  • The number of executions (or whether it should run indefinitely)
  • The communication text to appear on the customer's statement
The "Via plan" option in the subscription creation screen only appears once at least one plan has been set up for your account.

Using a plan when creating a subscription

When creating a subscription, choose Via plan instead of New, pick the plan, and select a start date.

Plans linked to a profile

A plan can be linked to a profile as its default plan. When a new mandate is signed under that profile, a subscription is automatically created from the default plan. The subscription's start date is derived from the mandate's sign date.

This is useful when every customer signing under the same profile should be automatically subscribed — for example for recurring memberships or contributions.

Linking a default plan to a profile is also configured by Twikey support.

Updating a plan

Plan changes only apply to new subscriptions created from the plan after the change.

Updating a plan does **not** modify subscriptions that are already running. Existing subscriptions keep the values they had when they were created. To update running subscriptions, use the [bulk update](/creditor/subscriptions/subscriptions_update_bulk.html) function.
