Some mandates need more than one signature before they are complete. This is typically only needed for B2B mandates, where the bank requires multiple legal representatives to approve a company mandate, or when your customer selects Someone else must co-sign during the signing flow. This option is also available to contract-type agreements. When this applies, an extra signing step starts after the first signature.

How the multi-signature flow works

  1. The first signer follows the normal signing flow and selects Someone else has to co-sign before signing.
  2. After this signature, the first signer automatically receives an email from Twikey with instructions to forward it to the other signers.
  3. The first signer forwards this email to the second signer that needs to sign.
  4. The second signer opens the link in the forwarded email and digitally signs the mandate. If needed, he can also select Someone else must co-sign — just like the first signer, he will then receive an email and need to forward it to the third signer.
  5. Once all required signatures are collected, the mandate is fully processed and ready to use or is sent to the bank for their approval (for B2B agreements).

For Dutch B2B direct debit mandates (Incassomachtiging via eMachtigingen), whether a second signature is required is determined by the debtor's bank, based on the IBAN.

Until every party has signed, the mandate stays in the Requires more signatures state.

Disabling the second signature option

You can disable the multiple signature option by ticking Don't allow companies to add a second signature in the B2B profile settings or Don't allow customers to co-sign a contract in the contract profile settings. If this option is ticked, this option no longer appears to your customers.
