How do I create a payment link?
There are several ways to create a payment link in Twikey:
- From the payment links overview: Navigate to Payment links in the left-hand navigation menu and click New payment link.
- From the customer details: Open a customer record and click the plus icon in the payment links section.
- Via CSV import: Create multiple payment links at once by importing a CSV file. See Import payment links.
- Via API: See API Documentation.
For detailed steps, see How to create a payment link.
What are the different statuses of a payment link?
- Created — the payment link has been generated but not yet opened by the customer.
- Clicked — the customer has opened the link but not yet completed the payment.
- Paid — the payment has been successfully completed.
- Expired — the link's expiry date has passed without a payment being received.
- Declined — the payment was unsuccessful: the customer declined to pay, or a problem occurred during the payment process.
Can I manually mark a payment link as paid?
No, payment links cannot be manually marked as paid in Twikey.
However, you can manually update the status of the associated invoice. For further information, see Mark invoice as paid.
Can I update the language of a payment link?
Yes, you can update the language of an existing payment link to match your customer's preferred language. See Update payment link language. How can I refund a payment made through a payment link?
Refunds can be processed from the payment link's details page. Open the payment link and navigate to the Refunds tab — this tab is only available once the payment link has the Paid status.
For more information, see Refund payment links.
How do I archive a payment link?
- Navigate to Payment links in the left-hand navigation menu.
- Select one or more payment links using the checkbox.
- Click ⋮ and select Archive.
- Confirm.
Important: if a payment link has the status Created, archiving it will permanently delete it instead — except if it was generated by a dunning workflow, in which case it is archived as normal.
For more details, see How to archive payment links.
Can I export payment link data?
Yes, you can export payment link data as a CSV file. Select the payment links you want to export, then use ⋮ > Export. For step-by-step instructions, see Export payment links. How can I send a payment link to a customer?
You can send a payment link via email, SMS, or WhatsApp directly from Twikey. For more details, see Invite customers to payment links.Troubleshooting
I cannot find a specific payment link in the overview
The payment links overview applies a date range filter by default and displays a maximum of 500 results. If you cannot find a payment link:
- Check and adjust the date range filter.
- Use the search bar or advanced filters to narrow the results by customer, status, amount, or other attributes.
My payment link has expired — what should I do?
Expired payment links cannot be reactivated. You will need to create a new payment link for the customer and send it again.
To avoid this in future, check the expiry date when creating the link and make sure it gives the customer enough time to pay.
The payment link shows as 'Declined' — what does this mean?
A declined status means the payment was not completed. This can happen because:
- The customer actively declined to pay.
- A technical problem occurred during the payment process (e.g. at the PSP).
Open the payment link details and check the events for more information. If the issue is on the PSP side, contact Twikey Support with the PSP Reference ID shown in the details tab.
Tips and best practices
- Activate payment methods first: payment links require the corresponding payment method to be activated in your Twikey environment before you can use them. See Set up payment methods.
- Use payment links in your dunning workflow: if a direct debit transaction fails, Twikey can automatically send a payment link to the customer as a recovery step. See Dunning workflow.
- The date range filter is always active: if you don't see expected payment links, check and widen the date filter first.
- Archiving a "Created" link deletes it: if you archive a payment link that has never been opened, it will be permanently deleted — not archived.
